The Cycle of the Schutzstaffel
We’ve seen this before. Some of us lived through it; others heard about it on the radio or saw it in black-and-white newsreels at the cinema, back before a house full of TVs created a culture where individuality reigned over family and sharing.
The context is simple. A European country was undergoing a process of radical change, politically, socially, economically, and militarily. It began with politics, where ideology started to whisper in the ears of a desperate population. There was a desperate need for enemies; someone to blame for the harsh reality of poverty, hyperinflation, war, and hunger. It was not the best moment for the “mob".
The wealthy, however, were, and always are, just fine. In fact, they take advantage of these shifts; for them, change means new investments and equities to buy, such as the military-industrial complex, to get even richer.
Continuing with the process, the ideology of this nation created a police and military mindset within society. The “enemy" was everywhere, and the state required a “strong arm" with everyone’s involvement so the nation could supposedly thrive in its grandeur. Police corps were founded with the precise mission of pursuing the “enemies of the fatherland".
Most of us from the Western front remember the images: platoons in black coats wandering the cities, taking suspects into custody for torture and execution. These fellows were trained for the job, and they were highly skilled at it, fueled by hatred and greed.
It looks like history is repeating itself, doesn't it? However, society has changed in eighty years. We have developed AI: drones with AI, missiles with AI, phones, boats, cars, and even sunglasses with AI. Even our houses have AI integrated; think of Alexa. We can follow any process of change anywhere in real-time, unlike in China, North Korea, or Russia. We can watch a drone head toward its target or witness police injustices as they happen.
This familiar cycle of change is now hitting what we call the “nation of freedom", the country of dreams, where everyone could supposedly fulfill them. This modern democracy is a country built on slavery and ethnic segregation, yet it still possesses the atomic bomb, vast wealth accumulation alongside rising poverty, eternal student debt, and a lack of a social safety net unless you can afford high insurance premiums.
Do you see the resemblance to our European example? Who are the enemies now? The immigrants, specifically the ones who cannot afford the lifestyle of the top 1%. To tackle this “pest," our modern democracy saw fit to reinforce its forces with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
We see these men on steroids, using private cars, walking with a “macho-man" swagger through our cities, bullying anyone who looks suspicious. Even artists fall into their claws. We know where this is driving us: total chaos. Maybe it is needed; maybe it is suicidal. But we’re already living with a Doomsday Clock, so…
