The Paraphernalia of Peace
We, human beings, a so-they-say developed species, have created a complex system with headquarters, diplomatic protocols, multilateral events, even anthems to praise the cooperation among us. 'Tis as if in the whole Anthropocene Era we haven't witnessed any kind of cooperation among societies (we only highlight the conflicts). The funny thing is that nowadays we expend so much of our economic resources on all this, and furthermore, we've developed an entire new bureaucratic-technical language that no mortal can easily grasp: writing beautiful technical reports; begging States for funds; employing thousands of technical minds or political favors. Perhaps the only deed that deserves sublime respect is humanitarian cooperation regarding natural catastrophes or forced displacements due to conflict or natural disasters.
Some of us have the foggy dream of being part of the intricate family. Hence, four, five, even seven years ('tis not a medical degree, though) one must study this knotty system of illusions in order to interact within them, and then we call ourselves “peace-builders" (theoretically). Perhaps, upon reading these lines, some colleagues will seize the writer to defend their cherished “system." They'll lecture us with their beautiful theories and references, as if intellectual authority grants legitimacy to speak above us, the mortals who don't understand what's happening in the international boxing ring. They'll declare that in more than 80 years since the Second World War, the world hasn't known such peaceful times, as if no one is bombing or invading anybody nowadays. And it's in this acknowledgement of ideas (not facts) that this sophisticated system of illusions in which we all agree as nations works (illusions agreeing on other illusions, but not facts... again).
Let's illustrate with a concrete example: the grand center of international cooperation located in New York City, hereafter the United Nations (UN). Within, we have several operational branches, but there's one circle comprising only five super-states representing the whole of humanity to control the “peace-building" processes (because we need several kinds of peace). In other words, five people respond on behalf of eight billion, correct? If one of them says no to a complicated, technical resolution, then deeds aren't possible to deploy. Thus, the whole business of peace just goes right into the garbage. Let's illustrate this with another actual example.
“The war... no, the conflict." “Hmmm, too light..." “The genocide of..." “Too hard—other societies cannot accept another one..." “The colonization..." “Oh, not again with that word, get over it!" the Europeans shout. “All right, the defense response of Israel (from 1947) to the October 7th Hamas attack (because of Israel's harassment)." "Does this sound suitable for your naïve eyes?"
“If you don't like the topic, we can take another example." “The invasion by Russia..." “No, no, no. That's diplomatic provocation." “The unnecessary military operation in Ukraine..." “Well, NATO was threatening Russia first, you know?" “So, the persuasive action from Russia to NATO regarding Ukraine?" Does that sound better?
Anyway, do you see how language has shaped our way of addressing simple facts like war, genocide, murder? Because of this lack of factual agreement, our beloved monsters in power, such as Vladi Put-in, Netanyan-who, and our almighty Donald “Sleeping-Toddler" Trump, are enjoying themselves with the nonsensical rhetoric in which they play along, doing whatever they want.
This is our picture today: we put so much effort into the paraphernalia of these major events, the UN General Assembly, the eternal COPs for our doomed planet, and whatever multilateral and bilateral event we can come up with just to have media visibility while the mob can't even save a dime. In the end, German Realpolitik is very straightforward: States, run by monsters... sorry, human beings, don't care at all about one another; they just want what they want at the expense of the other. Hence, these businessmen and women (gender equity) in power speak of conflict as deals... Deals! As if lives were assets (the insurance world knows this better), while we, the international cooperation technicians, struggle with technical speeches, meritocracy, and reports. These evil dudes play us as fools and drive the whole world into war, because it is lucrative and gives them an orgasmic diarrhea of greed.
